Build a skilled workforce with a registered apprenticeship program ... more
Levi Murphy started a pre-apprenticeship program at the end of his junior year of high school, working full time through his senior year and continuing the apprenticeship program after graduating from high school.
“I really didn’t know what to expect when I first started. Coming in as a 17-year old, I had a mindset that I would just be shut down – at the bottom of the totem pole,” said Murphy. “The program exceeded my expectations. They gave me everything I needed to get the job done and listened to what I had to say.”
Murphy started the apprenticeship doing electrical work in a new building, learning from the ground up. As he has moved through the program, he has been trained and certified on a variety of OSHA rules and equipment like the scissor lift and sky jack lift. He is currently learning welding and will be certified shortly on the forklift.
Murphy says everyone has to make their own choices and follow their own paths. He is happy with his choice of career and tells other students: “It’s worth the wait and work to try apprenticeship. I love the company I work for. They take you in with open arms. It’s a great home, and I have the support of workers and others from outside the company. I’m lucky to have what I’ve got.”
